Truss Out Scaffolding System For Above Roof Level Access

Majella Properties required urgent, serious building works to the tower area of Osborne Mill, Oldham. A live commercial building with over 40 businesses as tenants.

The scope of works given to the principal contractor, DW Builders, required gaining access to all four sides of the tower above roof level (35 metres from the ground).

After surveying Osborne mill, a decision was made that a normal independent scaffold from the ground up would be compliant due to the structural integrity of parts of the lower building.

Working with ISD designs, we came up with the solution that the best solution for the project would be to build a specialist-designed truss out hanger.

After a pre-start meeting with Majella Properties and DW Builders, we commenced work inside the tower on the 7th floor, fixing 750mm X beams to the wall using anchor bolted double tube ties.

Next, fixing 16 rows of 12m length 450mm beams on top of those to start the truss out hanger process.

Measuring and marking out the standards, dropping one pair at a time, sliding a 2 x 21ft tube tied together with a 5ft tube through the marked out doubles on the 450mm beam.

On the dropped-down hanger standards, we then cracked on with the base lift of the hanger, taking time to get everything plumb and to spec.

Once the base hanger lift was in, the team got to work and quickly completed the remaining seven lifts. Completing the top lift boarded and monoflex sheeting and laddered access, the job was a wrap.
